The photos of the fleet before Pearl Harbor are wonderful and I had not seen them before.There are many WWII photos mostly of the Iowas.I am delighted with the book.
It contained several photos I had not seen before.
The WARSHIP PICTORIAL series is one of the class acts in military history publishing. Their releases are informative, well-illustrated, quality publications. USN BATTLESHIPS IN COLOR, which was published in 2010, is an excellent example of the work done by Steve Wiper & Company.The pix, many of which are full-page, are presented in a roughly chronological arrangement. So the reader is presented with various BBs in the different camouflage schemes they carried from 1940 to war's end. All the 'big boys' are represented: Pennsylvania, New Mexico, West Virginia, Idaho, Wisconsin, Texas, Nevada, New York, Missouri, etc. in long-view or close-up shots. Most show the ships underway or dockside. There's a fair number of close-up photographs of armament - the main turrets, 40mm and 20mm gun tubs, etc. The pix are well-reproduced and knowledgeably captioned.In short, USN BATTLESHIPS IN COLOR is one of the very best WARSHIP PICTORIAL books I've seen, a 72-page treasure trove of rare, full-color Kodachrome shots of America's battlewagons! Highly recommended.
A really neat book with color photos. Hard to find ones like this.
